Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935. Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebrated in large number of countries including India.

The traditional celebrations include meeting with friends and exchanging of cards, flowers and gifts.

Friendship is a blessing, And, to all who have a friend, It's one of the most precious gifts That life could ever send.

Now see the other side of friendship day. Values of friendship now changed. 15-year-old girl who was allegedly gang raped by four youth near Vasai Gaon on friendship day, when she went to meet her friend Ryan D’Souza, 22, on friendship day.

The girl, who was a resident of Nalasopara's Chheda Nagar Colony, committed suicide the next day.Three of the four accused are members of a local orchestra, while the fourth is a college student.
