A happy story for our souls.

A peacock was picked up by a concerned Jerry Dimick along a road in Lackawanna County.  The beautiful bird was just standing along route 307 near Clarks Summit and no other cars stopped except for Dimick's.

Dimick said he and his friend were driving home on Route 307 in Newton Township when they spotted the beautiful peacock standing on the side of the road.  Jerry had a bird's eye view.

"I was afraid someone had hit it already. The way it was standing it looked like it was sick. It was scared. It was real scared."

Not knowing what to do, Dimick decided to wing it.

"All I did was went 'smooch, smooch, smooch, smooch' and the bird came over to me and I reached out and grabbed him," Dimock said.

With no room in the back of his pick-up truck, Jerry planted the peacock in the front seat.

"The bird was sitting in between the two of us. He sat there," Dimock added.

It's not an everyday thing that a peacock sits in your front seat. No wonder everyone wants a peek.

"I'm shocked. I've never seen a bird like that before in my life," said Dimick.

At Dimick's home in Taylor, there was a proud peacock in the pick-up and everybody wanted to take a peek.

Dimick is doing his best to find the peacock a home.

He said he's determined to find the bird a safe place to live. He said he's called the game commission, animal control, SPCA, even the local zoo, but hasn't gotten anywhere.

"I will find a place for the bird. If I have to keep it in my truck, I'll keep him in my truck. I'll ride around with him as long as I got water and food in there. I'm not going to worry about nothing. The bird will be alright," vowed Dimick.

His family and friends are curious about their feathered friend. Dimick's granddaughter is not wild about the idea of picking up stray birds.

"I would never pick up a bird like that," said Heather Marchesani of Taylor. But she said she is not surprised.  "My grandfather is that type of person."

Dimick said he'll do whatever it takes to give the bird a sanctuary, because birds of a feather flock together.

"I love all animals, all animals, even skunks, anything."

It was reported that Dimick's feathered friend is going to a farm where other peacocks live.

Such a nice story. My peacock was kind of shy and not very cooperative. Plus the scenery wasn't the best.

I guess that's as wild as peacocks get! lol

At least it's being taken care of

By the way, one of the photographs contributed to the story was mine :-) (the one at Upton park)

This picture was taken at Barcelona Zoo, and we waited for around 10 minutes before the peacock would actually turn around.

This isnt that peacock. I just got an invitation to add my photo of India`s National Bird, the peacock, seen in Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary, Wyanad, Kerala.

There are definitely some people who are seen as "pack leaders" by other animals and never get bitten or attacked. My dad picks up black widows and "re-locates" them if he's worried that in cleaning the banana plantation, he might accidentally hurt them!

This was a photo I had taken at the world famous St. Louis zoo. There are a handfull of peacocks that are allowed to wonder around, and this one was sitting on the window sill of the avian house.

This photo was taken at Velas Vallarta Resort in Puerto Vallarta. The peacocks and Iguana's can roam the property at its leisure. Kind of nice .

This peacock was a resident of the Marriot hotel in San Antonio; not the one in the story.

This peakcock was at the wonder world park in san marcos,tx.
He was the most dominant one there and his call was extremley loud!
In my opinion you have to see these birds in real life to really appreciate there beauty.

I was driving through an apartment complex in Davie, FL on 7/16/08 and saw this amazing flash of color. I throw the car in reverse and there it was - a beautiful peacock.

I had to talk a few pictures and capture the moment.

This beauty is a happy inhabitant of the SF Zoo, not a stranded one. Still, I am always amazed by humankind's lack of maturity and responsibility when it comes to dealing with animals.

The photo was taken at the Hope Gardens Zoo in Kingston Jamaica. Although the animals are sparse there, they are fairly well cared for, but the Zoo is in desperate need of donations. When I visited, it had a sad forgotten feel of a part that you could see, was once flourishing and is now languishing.

I was lucky to capture this beautiful peacock at the Bronx Zoo. There are a lot of peacocks roam freely along with other animals. One of them always ready to pose..

Wonderful story. These are beautiful birds and it is nice to see people care about them enough to "take them under their wing," so to speak

only in america.  it's surprising that the bird didn't attack, as peacocks can get quite mean when they feel threatened.  they roam around wild in england, sometimes in the roads in the rural parts.  seem to do fine.

Beautiful story, there aren't many people in this world that would act like this man. Very sweet!
