PETA Demands UGA Replace Bulldog Mascot with Robot
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA, has released a statement demanding that the University of Georgia (UGA) replace their mascot, a live bulldog, with a robot alternative after the past two pooches serving as mascot died of congenital heart conditions within a year of taking the role of mascot.
“Peta has asked the school's athletic director, Damon M Evans, to replace the mascot with an animatronic dog - or to rely solely on a costumed mascot - instead of using another real bulldog."
“Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.”
Following the death of 'Uga the Sixth', the predecessor of the most recent mascot's passing, PETA issued a complaint with a more feasible solution, asking the school to get their next mascot from a shelter instead of pup bred specifically for the university.
PETA protestors commented that, contrary to popular belief, bulldogs are "far from being tough, bulldogs are actually weakly genetic freaks and shouldn't be allowed to breed."
A spokesman for the University of Georgia stated that PETA made "good points that deserve our consideration.”

PETA has a point here. The U. of Georgia could adopt a not so highly bred bulldog. The breeding for English bulldogs has gotten way too extreme.

IMO, it's PETA members that shouldn't be allowed to breed!!!

Do not bow down to PETA! I am the biggest animal lover in the world. I am NOT a Georgia Bulldog fan whatsoever. BUT, i do know that the UGA's are treated well, spoiled and loved. PETA is losing support due to these crazy demands about animals who are truly taken care of. They should concentrate on Puppy Mills and the like...
