Pillow Fight in Krakow

A short-standing tradition in Krakow, Poland, is the annual student pillow fight in the Market Square. It starts out innocently enough. Students from the city’s universities gather at a set date in various corners of the Market Square, armed with pillows and dressed in t-shirt colors corresponding to their academic institution. At the first note of the trumpeter from St. Mary’s marking the hour, they go running, pillows at the ready, towards the designated meeting point. The battle begins, the feathers start flying, but it's all for fun.

However, this year ended on a bitter note. The pillow fight was denied a permit by the city, probably on account of the mess that tends to get left behind (although students were on hand with garbage bags to pick up the feathers). As a result, 15 tickets were issued by the municipal authorities, namely for littering and disturbing the peace.

It looks like a fantastic event. San Francisco and New York also have annual pillow fights... Krakow police should learn from that example and not bust people for swinging pillows.
