I guess it makes sense, considering accomodation will be tight. Ships were also used in Athens and Sidney as well.

VANCOUVER - Members of the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit know that securing the 2010 Winter Games won't be a luxury cruise, but it could feel like it.

The unit has officially requested proposals for large ships to house Olympic security forces.

RCMP Insp. Donna Kaluza, accommodations director for the Integrated Security Unit, says the team is looking for one or more ships that would offer the same accommodations as those available in an average hotel.

Kaluza says the ships would be home to RCMP and municipal police as well as Canadian Forces members for the duration of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Prospective bidders are being told that security forces stationed on board should have access to restaurants and fitness equipment but rooms usually dedicated to entertainment will instead be used for briefings and meeting space.

Rob Peters, I like this story. It's good stuff. I guess since accomodations will be tight, I wonder if they will be using Dinghys to get to shore, as well , Whistler is quite a piece away from the ocean and with traffic from the ship to Whistler it will be quite the challenge getting there, of course helicopter transportation is a nice touch.  Pemberton on the other hand is closer and would be ideal, set up a small base with portables would work as well.
