A policeman who died during a training exercise in Manchester has been named as Ian James Terry. The 32-year-old police constable was killed by a single shot from a colleague's gun. Investigations under way at scene

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the incident.

PC Terry was taken to North Manchester General Hospital, but medics could not save his life.

The incident happened at 11.35am in the Newton Heath area, an industrial part of the city home to several factories.

The shooting happened at a huge disused warehouse, known locally as the Sharp Building.

It was the former distribution centre for Sharp, the electronics giant, which used to sponsor Manchester United.

Police sealed off entrances to the site but forensic officers in white boiler suits could be seen in the goods yard outside the warehouse, which was cordoned off with yellow tape.
