Is the fact that the Obamas don't have a pet a problem? A new poll shows it might be! There has been talk of the Obamas getting a dog to counter the problem.

American politics at its finest...

If the presidential election goes to the dogs, John McCain is looking like best in show.

From George Washington's foxhound "Drunkard" to George W. Bush's terriers "Barney" and "Miss Beazley," pets are a longtime presidential tradition for which the presumed Republican nominee seems well prepared, with more than a dozen.

The apparent Democratic nominee Barack Obama, on the other hand, doesn't have a pet at home.

The pet-owning public seems to have noticed the difference.

An AP-Yahoo News poll found that pet owners favor McCain over Obama 42 percent to 37 percent, with dog owners particularly in McCain's corner.

"I think a person who owns a pet is a more compassionate person — caring, giving, trustworthy. I like pet owners," said Janet Taylor of Plymouth, Mass.

Taylor, who described herself as a retired stay-at-home wife, owns two cats, Lady Jane Taylor and Mr. Tommy Katz.

In other silly election news, Obama has got to clarify the message he's sending to voters about his beverage preferences.

As a pet owner and avid animal lover, I can say I do NOT support McCain.  While I've been a moderate conservative in the past, it has become apparent that the Republican party has nothing good or new to offer this country.

Well first I don't have a vote in your election being Irish...but I would be voting for Obama if I had..even though he has no pet..hihi. Somehow I think the situation in the world today might require more than having a cute cat or lovable dog...after all George W has a dog, and maybe Barney should have been in charge, he could hardly have done worse..:)

Sorry, but I do not think that having a pet matters one way or the other when you are running for President.

I do Know I will not be voting in this election. The person I wanted to be President is no longer a candidate and the 2 main ones left Obama and McCain...personally, I don't think either of them are fit to be President.

It is sad to say but I will more than likely be sitting this election out after being able to vote for 34 years now.

Actually I'm from Brasil, so I guess my vote is not going to any american candidate, but anyways, my pets are here to contribute to the one who loves animals. When people learn to respect and love all forms of life this will be a better planet, for sure!
