NP Rank:
Puerto Rico Exporting 2000 Monkeys to Baghdad
What do you do with unwanted monkeys that are destroying your agriculture? Well if you're in Puerto Rico they have a one way ticket to Baghdad. Over thirty years ago a dozen patas and rhesus monkeys escaped from a research facility and today nearly 2000 are pillaging farms in Puerto Rico's southwest.
Natural Resource Secretary Daniel Galan said yesterday that officials have been pleading with zoos around the world and finally the Baghdad Zoo accepted the offer. The exportation is planned over the next couple of weeks, after somebody catches them all.

Notice that the photos submitted by me were taken in Hong Kong, not Puerto Rico…

I think this is a great idea, and I'm glad that a zoo agreed to take them in.

I was looking at pictures of the zoo though and it's definitly a step down from their current living conditions

The photo that I was requested to submit is from Longleat Safari Park, UK. Clearly Baghdad zoo isn't of the same standard as Longleat but hopefully the monkeys will have have their needs met and the farms in southwest Puerto Rico will recover quickly.

After Sri Lanka was invaded by Rhesus monkeys, in some countries had to leave the windows of a hotel room close to danger that would come.

It's great that these monkey's get a new future in Bagdad.
The photo I submitted are 3 rhesus monkeys who live in the Rotterdam Zoo called Blijdorp in the Netherlands. They share their rock and space with a Takin.
