Royal stockings sold for £8,000
The lure of of stockings prevailed over bloomers when it came to the price realised by a pair of Queen Victoria's legware. Her stockings made £8000 wheras her 50" waist bloomers made only just over half that at a previous auction. The stockings have gone to Ruddington Frameknitters Museum near Nottingham who outbid other buyers from as far away as Canada who were keen to get there hands on the old Queen's stockings. If anyone finds Victoria's husband's original metalware that the now popular with some piercing 'The Prince Albert' is named after they could make a small fortune at auction.
A pair of Queen Victoria's stockings have been sold at auction in Derby for 40 times the list price.
The black and white stockings, owned by a Derbyshire woman who inherited them from her mother, were sold for £8,000 to a bidder from North Wales.
A pair of Queen Victoria's 50-inch bloomers fetched £4,500 at the same auction house in July.
The stockings were purchased for the Ruddington Framework Knitters' Museum in Nottingham.
