Sarkozy en off sur France 3 : "Ca va changer"

A video of Nicolas Sarkozy getting angry at a TV technician before he is interviewed on state television has become an instant internet success.

If you watch the video it just seems like he is being a bit arrogant, but that is my opinion.

The video shows the employee clipping a microphone to Mr Sarkozy's tie, and not responding to a presidential "hello".

"It's a question of manners," Mr Sarkozy is heard muttering. "When you're invited, you're entitled to have people say 'hello' to you".

The video, posted on the Dailymotion website, has drawn about 500,000 hits.

It was recorded on Monday, as Mr Sarkozy was waiting to be interviewed on France 3 television.

Inquiry

Mr Sarkozy is seen winking while complaining about the manners of the technician who appears not to have returned his greeting.

At the end of the brief outburst, he appears to suggest the employee should not be working for state TV.

Asked about the video, a spokesman for the presidency declined to comment.

FR3 has condemned the "pirating" of the off-air footage and launched an inquiry.

The unfortunate thing is he was probably prince charming about thirty seconds later when the cameras were rolling.

I have a feeling this happens quite often behind the scenes.

Me too - I'm glad they caught this on camera - hopefully he'll be more careful next time.

Good piece but it seems as though everyone rather jumped to the wrong conclusion - according to a report in today's Liberation - hardly a backer of Sarkozy.

Yes Sarkozy made the comment about manners to the guy who didn't return his "hello" - but he never said he shouldn't be working for France 3.

His comment "things will change" was apparently in response to one of the journalist's saying that "This is France" in reference to  demonstrations outside the studio (which were against dropping advertising and had put Sarkozy in a less than happy mood).

To which Sarkozy replied "That was how things were before, now they're going to change". So no veiled reference to having the guy sacked and that huge wink must be some sort of giveaway as to his (perhaps) ill-judged comment.
