Pleasures Opens America's First Sex Toy Drive-Thru

An Alabama sex shop called Pleasures opened the USA's first sex toy drive-thru. This is a bold move, considering that sex toys are illegal in Alabama. Indeed, one can only buy a sex toy in Alabama if that item is for "scientific, educational or medical purposes". In fact, Alabama sex-toy customers have to fill out a form in order to get a doctor's note to then go and buy a sex toy.

Pleasures had recently opened a former bank building: the suburban kind, with drive-thru lanes. One wonders if the sex toys are delivered through those pneumatic tubes. The sex toy drive-thru will be open for business on November 13; until then, customers must park and walk into the store like in the pre-Jetsons days.

This triggers so many questions and so many jokes.

"The real essence of what I'm trying to get across is adult stores don't have to be hidden in back alleys," Williams told The Huntsville Times. "Obviously we wouldn't be doing as well as we are if no one enjoyed shopping here."

Alabama Sex Toy Law

Here is the Alabama sex toy law (Section 13A-12-200.2, if you must know).

This is the loophole:

Customers are required to fill out a form detailing the health reasons for purchasing the titillating toys and the sale is a go only after it’s cleared as being for "a bona fide medical, scientific, educational, legislative, judicial or law enforcement purpose."

So, there's a law-enforcement purpose for a sex toy? We know that dildos have been used against police officers, but that's a different story.
