Presenters at this year's Academy Awards will be given an expensive goodie bag that will feature, among other things, a bottle of Slender Wine, a new sugar-free wine that has substantially less calories than regular wine.

Indiana-based Chateau Thomas Winery scored a major marketing coup by getting the wine included among Oscar freebies. They're hoping that the giveaway will appeal not just to calorie-conscious celebrities, but to average consumers who are looking to cut down on their sugar intake.

Instead of sugar, Slender Wines uses Zerose, an artificial sweetener that mixes with yeast to produce alcohol.

Chateau Thomas Winery advertises Slender Wines as having "no sugar, no carbs, no aftertaste, no kidding." But just because the wine has no sugar doesn't mean it has no calories. People who think that Slender is a zero calorie wine may be disappointed.

Although it doesn't warrant a mention on the Slender website, their wines have as many calories as many regular wines. That's because alcohol has plenty of calories. A glass of Slender wine may contain more than 100 calories.
