Police have arrested the 24-year-old son of a Warren couple found buried in their back yard cesspool and plan to charge him with their murders.

The Rhode Island Attorney General's office said that James A. Soares Jr. became the prime suspect early in the investigation into the disappearance of his parents.

Sixty-year-old James A. Soares Sr. and 53-year-old Marian Soares were reported missing on July 17 after they didn't show up for a family reunion.

After a couple from Baltimore Avenue was missing for several weeks, police discovered two bodies -- believed to be them -- in the cesspool in their backyard Saturday. Family friends have their suspicions -- they say Marian and James Soares had a rocky relationship with their son.

The Rhode Island State Police have joined Warren Police in what's now become a homicide investigation. Crews discovered the bodies in the septic tank around 7 AM Saturday, after bringing in a backhoe to dig up the backyard. The couple's been missing since mid-July, and now police say they're interviewing a family member in custody.
