Sphynx Cat Tattoos: Russian Feline Body Mods
Sphinx Cat Tattoos
Russia is known in the West for its distinctive prison tattoos (as popularized by prison tattoo photo sites and the film Eastern Promises. The trend has spread, though, to include cat tattoos. Not tattoos of cats, but tattoos on cats.
Hairless Sphynx cats are getting the Miami Ink treatment, and animal-rights advocates are not impressed. The cat has to be tranquillized for hours in order for that tat to be applied, and the animal itself cannot give consent, nor express the desire, for such a procedure.
Cat Tattoo Video Footage
We've seen several pictures of tattooed cats, some of which we've declared to be 'shopped, (thefrisky has the most elaborate example) but Russia Times has video footage of a cat actually getting tattooed.
Some Sphynx Cat owners have taken to temporarily modifying their pets... using ink pens instead of tattoos.
Most Sphynx owners I have spoken to have, at one time or another, drawn on their Sphynx…..
Here’s another Russian Sphynx that has been inked and in a much nicer way than the Tutankhamen mask (I really don’t like that tattoo at all).

Unacceptable! So cruel to keep a cat under anesthesia for 3 hours!

I have plenty of tattoos, and I know how uncomfortable it is when they heal. Maybe the cat isn't feeling the tattooing when he is unconscious, but he/she is gonna scratch those scabs when they start to itch during the healing process, and leave the potential open for infection, and of course, damage to the tattoo. I don't care how the times are changing. That animal is not asking for this. Oh, and I'd like to see that owner's tattoos; if she's gonna put her cat through that, she damn well better put herself through the pain and recovery so she knows what kitty is up against.

I totally disagree with tattooing sphynx cats, it's horrible! Most sphynx owner I know use the safe ones that would be used on children and it does not hurt the animal!
