According to the Guam Department of Agriculture, a ship carrying construction materials was being offloaded when thousands of spiders began crawling out from the cargo hold.

Alien Spiders: Not Welcome

The cargo was returned to the MV Altavia, which was then turned away from the port. The spiders were of a type not native to Guam, and part of the Guam Port Authority's job is to defend Guam from alien spiders, so, despite being initially cleared to dock, the MV Altavia was sent away.

Agriculture officials say they don't know what type of spiders were on the ship, but said it's a type that isn't normally found on the island. They said there was concern the spiders could damage Guam's environment.
