A natural wonder dubbed "Brittle Star City" has been discovered on the summit of an undersea mountain.

Scientists were amazed to find tens of millions of starfish-like creatures packing the flat top of the seamount, which rises to a height of 750 metres above the ocean floor.

The vast colony is thought to have built up partly because of powerful currents that sweep food to the creatures while keeping predators at bay.
