A cat from Reno, Nevada has the distinction of being the world's longest cat. According to the Guinness Book of World Records 2011, a Maine Coon named Stewie is the world's longest cat, measuring in at a whopping 48.5 inches. That more than double the length of the average housecat.

How exactly did Stewie get to be four feet tall?

Owners Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsnes don't seem entirely sure.

"The wows and the comments really led us to take a look at this," said Hendrickson, who described Stewie as a "very laid back kinda guy." She added, "I couldn't tell you how many times I have heard that he is the longest cat that person has ever seen."

The couple says they've been trying for the World Record since 2008. They earned the record in 2010 and still hold it as of 2011.
