December passed and these pigs saved their lives.  They are exception to tell the story. During the New Year and Christmas celebrations, the pig meat is a very frequent plate on  Cuban tables.  After three devastating hurricanes that whipped the island in September-October 2008, this menu is a luxury that many cannot afford. The pound of pork steak is sold to 35.00 pesos, and meat in pieces is sold to 21.00 pesos. (Average salary in Cuba is 408.00 Cuban pesos/month). Nevertheless, I know that in Bayamo and other provinces there was a lot of party and consequently, high death rates of pigs.
