Chuvit Kamolvisit, a candidate for the position of governor of Bangkok, attacked a television reporter during a live interview.

Kamolvisit soon apologized for kicking and punching host Visarn Dilokwanich for asking exceedingly harsh questions.

"I admit I did it. I couldn't stand it when he humiliated me on air," said Chuvit, a stocky former bodybuilder who owned a strip of girly bars before entering politics a few years ago.

"What I did was a petty crime and I am happy to pay the fine for elbowing him and kicking him," Chuvit said at his campaign headquarters next to a park he built and gave to the public.

This isn't the first time that Kamolvisit, who used to own several high-profile Bangkok brothels, has been embroiled by controversy. In fact, he has been stirring up trouble since he first entered politics back in 2005.

Chuvit Kamolvisit, Thailand's former "Massage Parlour King", who has been elected as member of Parliament this month, made his legislative debut with yet another publicity stunt by smashing a Jacuzzi Bath Tub to pieces with a sledgehammer and then lying down in a casket outside the Thai parliament house, as a ritual cleanse from his past involvement in the Thai sex industry.

Chuwit, who will represent the Chart Thai party as a new member of the Parliament of Thailand said: I am crashing the symbols of my old Massage Parlour Business to show the people of Thailand that I am no longer involved in the Bangkok sex industry and I lay down in this box to show the world that the old Chuwit is no more and a new Chuwit Kamolvisit has been born.

Mr Chuvit is a real character. I don't think he will get elected Bangkok Governor because he isn't sponsired by one of the major political parties. But he is always direct and entertaining. The assault was clearly a calculated publicity stunt - he likes to promote a strong-man image.

One of his opponents Leena Junjanya (#7) fell into the polluted Klong San Sabe a couple of weeks ago. People think that was a publicity stunt too. It definitely drew attention to the dirty canal.

I would not describe Chuvit's former businesses as "girly bars". They were high end, expensive, luxury massage establishments for rich Thai and Asian businessmen. They still exist under different ownership. Very different from the gogo bars in places like Patpong which can be thus described.
