I really am not quite sure how these traditions come about - but I have just found out that it is National Tequila Day in the United States. To quell my curiosity, can anyone tell me the origins of this nationalized day?
July 24th is National Tequila Day. In a recent survey commissioned by Tequila Don Julio, the most popular high-end tequila in Mexico, 84% of respondents said they are interested in learning how to mix easy-to-make, creative cocktails with top-shelf tequila
Some little tid-bits:
It is a common misconception that tequila is fermented from cactus. Agaves and cacti are both types of succulents, but are members of different botanical classes (Liliopsida and Cactaceae, respectively).
Tequila is a common topic of popular culture, ranging from films that simply use the name, such as Tequila Sunrise (1988) to songs about the drink. According to Tom Robbins's book Still Life with Woodpecker tequila is the preferred drink of outlaws.

Always on a quest for a good margarita and a great margarita deal, I found myself at Chili's where I samples each of the tequila concoctions resulting in a great photo and a nice smiley evening.

I was in Mykonos, Greece. I ordered a tequila sunrise and watched the sunset over Little Venice in the main town of Mykonos.
