Unknown Lifeform in NC Sewer - Actually Perez Hilton Anal Exam!

The internet is abuzz with a video of an unknown life form in North Carolina sewer.  It turns out that the blob is not something out of science fiction film, but a colony of tubifex worms.

Video footage from a so-called "snake camera" that was trolling in a sewer near Raleigh, North Carolina. The video shows some kind of pulsing mass, which led to all kinds of conjecture about the nature of the blob. According to city officials, the unknown life form is simply a colony of tubifex worms.

The colonies attach themselves to roots that gradually work themselves into weak points in the pipes.

"They seem to respond to the light from the camera," Buchan said. "That light is pretty hot."

The unknown life form in North Carolina sewer was claimed in some reports to be an alien species and not of this earth.  It seems that earthly science has shown that the mysterious footage was nothing more than a colony of tubifex worms.

The creepy clip (above), which shows a sewer camera getting up close and personal with what appears to be a pulsating glob of slime, drew the attention of city officials after sci-fi blog io9 wrote about the video in a post headlined: “Video Footage Surfaces of North Carolina Sewer Creatures.”

The worms live in sewage and pond sediment, a Raleigh official News 14 Carolina, but the video makes them look unnatural. “They seem to respond to the light from the camera,” said Ed Buchan, environmental coordinator at the Raleigh Public Utilities Department. “That light is pretty hot.”

While the worms are a natural part of life in the sewer, Buchan said spotting them is still somewhat rare. “I’ve seen a lot of sewer TV before and I’ve never seen them,” he said. “We were surprised. We didn’t know immediately what it was.”

The footage is not tubifex worms!!!  It is obvious!  I have seen these types of worms and the sewer video is a species unlike any I have ever seen!  I am sure everyone would like to know what they REALLY are!

it could be a Bryozoan, Bryozoans are tiny colonial animals that generally build stony skeletons of calcium carbonate, superficially similar to coral (although some species lack any calcification in the colony and instead have a mucilaginous structure). Members of the Phylum bryozoa are known as “moss animals” or “moss animacules” (which is the literal translation of the Greek term βρυόζωα, “bryózoa”) or as “sea mats”. They generally prefer warm, tropical waters, but are known to occur worldwide. They’ve also been observed to exist in sewer systems, examples being Denver and North Carolina. There are about 8,000 living species, with several times that number of fossil forms known.

tubifex worms ... Yeah, sure! ;)

Why don't we should call to Molder and Scully to check that? ... It would be easier and more accurate!

My personal researches found that this type of life-form is "Patrice" from Sponge Bob square pants!

 <Hmmmm>...

But I'm still investigating it!

The plasma around it seems to move and contract and if they are worms they don't seem to be moving around much inside of there. There is quite a delay from when the camera hits it to when they actually move, if it were affected by light I would have thought it would move straight away. Its almost as if it senses a presence rather than reacting diretly to the light.

I don't comment much on articles online, but this is by far the stupidest bunch of comments I've read in a long time. Nearly every piece of user-generated content on this page makes me wish the tubifex colonies were man-eating sewer blobs.

Are you people deranged? It's like a mental hospital day trip to an internet cafe.

I hear you! Surfing the web makes even a very average person like myself feel smart. I think the average I.Q. for humanity, Americans especially, has gone down to an all-time low. How incredibly sad it is when adults and young adults cannot articulate a thought or even spell at a third grade level.

I'm 16 and sadly I see it too. I'm not saying that my spelling/grammar is that great, but... seriously, guys. It's like they are training themselves to be retarded. If you talk to an average teenager these days, they will not be able to spell (probably) 80% of the words you ask them to. This is the same for all but one or two of my friends. And I'm only looking at the level of writing, let alone intelligence in general.

wtf the sewers ge hemroids?

the reason they don't look like the tubifex worms you've seen before is because there are so many of them, because they're so big.. and because c'mon.. they're all covered in shitslime.  They're already the wrong color because of that..if they're not tubifex worms, they're something really super duper similar.

After watching this video several times, and viewing everyone's different comments I have concluded that this could not possibly be a mound of worms. If it were tubifex worms the movements would be much more erratic. It looks as if it's dissolving the walls around it. There are points where the mass is connected to the wall that seem to pull toward the mass all in unison, as if the mass is controlling all of the movements. But before just blurting out what I think it is, I'd rather wait to see some sort of debunking.

People people, use your brains a little....The simultaneous pulsating you see is actually the sympathetic contraction of all the worms.  If one worms contracts or moves, the others clumped around it also contract in response.  Look closely and you can see the ends of some of the worms writhing around.  It's a clump of worms, without the water, contracting nearly at the same time.
