Twilight Fans Fight For Rob Pattinson Poster, Girl Hospitalized
Massive international promotions have been going on for this week's release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon with numerous cast appearances and fan events. Thousands of fans turn up at these events and the sheer numbers can quickly escalate into Twi-hard mayhem. One such event at the Prince Charles Cinema in London's Leicester Square turned nasty, however, when a girl was hospitalized from a fight that broke out over a free Robert Pattinson poster.
The London event hosted 300 fans who had won tickets to the world premiere of a Robert Pattinson documentary, "Robsessed." Fans in attendance got to see the first screening of the film at the fan event.
The DVD documentary about Robert Pattinson was promoted with 300 free posters for fans in attendance at the event. As the posters were being distributed, however, fans took more than their allotted one poster per person which resulted in there not being enough for everyone.
“A massive fight broke out between two girls over the last poster” says eyewitness Precious Acabousi, a 19-year-old from Surrey, who was at the premiere. “There was a lot of pushing and shoving, everyone was crowding around them. I heard gasps as one of the girls fell on the floor, she was in terrible pain and had twisted her arm – she was screaming for help. The poster had been ripped in two”
The trampled girl was immediately taken to hospital for treatment and did not get to see the screening for "Robsessed." As for the last poster? It was ripped in half from the Twi-hards' brawl. When things like this happen, it's clear that while Twilight fans may be passionate, many of them go way too far slipping from hype into hysteria.
