Twins unite for 80th birthday in Mulgrave

Dutch-born twins Frans and Ad Flipse celebrated their 80th birthday together on August 4, 2008. This was a very precious moment for both of them since they have been apart for more than 40 years.

Born in Holland on August 4, 1928, the identical brothers were separated when Frans came to Australia in 1969 and settled in Mulgrave and they have seen each other only a handful of times since.

"I am here now to celebrate our birthday," Ad, who still lives in Holland, said.

Their English may be a little shaky but the pair said they had fond memories of their childhood in Holland, including a terrifying escape from German soldiers during World War II.
