Police in Uganda have arrested two men they caught "preparing for sale a butchered dead dog as goat meat".
The Police in Wandegeya on Saturday arrested two men from Kalerwe found slaughtering a dog which the Police suspected they planned to sell as goat’s meat.
Hundreds of angry residents jammed Wandegeya Police station to catch a glimpse of the men, Musa Boogere and Edward Katumba of Kinnubbi zone, who had been caught with the dog carcass.
The bare-chested, blood-stained men had already cut off the tail, legs and head of the canine.
The officer in charge of Wandegeya Police station, Inspector Bernard Otim, said they had received a tip in the morning that the two men were killing a dog to turn it into meat for sale as muchomo (roasted meat).
“We immediately deployed our men who arrested the suspects as they were still slaughtering the dog,” he said.
Otim said the suspects would be charged with injuring an animal, in violation of Section 334 of the Penal Code Act, and were likely to be produced in court on Monday or Tuesday after the Resident State Attorney had sanctioned the file.
He said it was not the first time they had received complaints that the suspects were involved in selling dog meat.

Dog meat is a delicacy in some east Asian countries like Korea and China. China has, however, banned dog meat in the official restaurants of Olympic games that begin in Beijing this Friday. You can read more about it here.
