According to Skynews Correspondent Greg Milliam a Harrington, Pennsylvania High School is reportedly spying on it's own students via webcams by remotely turning on webcams hidden on school computers lent to students. This is a clear violation of personal rights of these students and also the privacy infraction as well. School officials claim that this practice is only to find lost or stolen laptops, however many students feel that they have been victimized parents of one student is filing a lawsuit for their son, another female student says that she too has this same school computer in her room even while she's changing. The school district is reviewing the policy meanwhile the recommended remedy is to cover the webcam with tape to prevent further viewing or recordings.

Indeed, the more alarming issue is that two-way video recording devices are probably in more home electric devices then we may realize, remember the t.v. cable box that had a hidden cam in it? something to think about

It's usually little brother that comes to mine, but he always brings wine ;-)
I'd be a bit annoyed (understatement) if I found out my daughter had been given one of these, in fact the head of the school would likely be wearing it as a suppository.

Lack of ethical and moral values as well as a lack of trust lead to spying. It certainly does not set a good example nor model.

The administration should be fired and the main culprate face criminal charges in addition to the multitude of civils suits no doubt soon to follow.

Pennsylvania has a statute prohibiting the unlawful filming, videotaping or photographing of another person. (Electronic Surveillance Control Act, 18 Pa. C.S. § 5701, et seq.) One of the principles of the statute is to protect ones reasonable expectation of privacy. Under this statute, it is unlawful to photograph someone, without their consent, if the person is in a dressing room, bathroom, bedroom, or some other location where one expects privacy. So, it appears that surveillance photos are within legal parameters as long as such photos or video do not violate a person’s reasonable expectation of privacy.
