The UK has shut its UFO investigation unit. The Ministry of Defence has run an alien and UFO hotline for many years but that was shut down on December the first. This is not the the British government saying that they do not recognise the exitance of UFOs but that UFO activity is not seen as a threat - the Ministry of Defence state that there is no 'defence beneit' in UFO intervention.

"The MoD has no specific capability for identifying the nature of such sightings. There is no defence benefit in such investigation and it would be an inappropriate use of defence resources."
