Introduction (The Original News Release)
News Release... from Author William D. (Will) Bevis, Gadsden, AL. Dec. 31, 2008.
Beginning January 8, 2009 - Elvis' Birthday - I will try to place one new chapter a week of a new, unique book I am working on about Elvis, on Nowpublic.com.
What will make this book unique... standing out among the thousands of other Elvis books?
This book will be written in "King James English..."
To me there is no greater book than the King James Bible. And even with all his flaws, there are few if any American stories greater than that of Elvis Presley's.
This book will bring to life that story in the language and manner of the King James Bible...
The book that Elvis himself loved the most.
It will be my final and hopefully, best book written in that manner... The first which was "The Book of Martin" about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., about which Readers Digest commented,
"... a highly literate tribute... one that deserves a place on every bookshelf..."
and which readers commented saying,
"I try to be strong but when I read it I cried like a baby,"
and
"It was wonderful!"
and
"God Bless you for writing this!"
(More information on that book, so that you may have a better idea of the coming quality of the Elvis book, is at:)

What will be the Goal of the Book?
The goal will be to tell the story of Elvis... from his distant ancestors onward, in the timeless beauty and language of the King James Bible.
With that in mind, one of the subgoals will be that any word that is not used in the Bible... will not be used in the book. In keeping with the goal of keeping the work biblical and timeless, even the name Elvis will not appear in the book, even though it is about him. Instead he will be addressed in different manners, until such time as the people themselves called him "The King."
Even the title will not have his given name in it, but will be "The Book of the King... In King James English.
A further subgoal will be not to use any word in the book if it sounds like it wouldn't come from the Bible - even if it is in the Bible. For example, the word Presidents is in the Bible... but sounds like it wouldn't be. So it will not be used.
And a final sub goal... is to use as much of any and all text from the Bible that sounds like it was written about Elvis himself, or the situations he found himself in. In other words... to myself write as little material as possible, and let the Bible speak whenever possible.
This brings up the question of plagiarism. But plagiarism is when you do not give credit where it is due, and in this work I will give all credit to the original writers of the Bible. If there is anything, good, and beautiful in the writing, it will come from those men, I am sure. And I will say so effusively.
How am I qualified to write this book?
In addition to having read every major book and most of the minor ones about Elvis...
I have read the ENTIRE Bible and have listened to the the entire Bible two more times as read by the great English actor Alexander Scourby. And I have listened to the better known New Testament more than ten times. And throughout all of that, I made literally thousands of notes. And focusing on those things in Elvis' story... that seem to be described in Old and New Testament stories.
The final goal I have with this book, is that it not be sacreligious, and that it also not make fun of the human being we know as Elvis Presley. Two books came before this one, both called "The Gospel of Elvis..." and both made fun of the man, while using almost nothing of the language from the Bible.... just a few "thees and thous" and obvious things of that nature... and using modern words such as "peanut butter" and "bananas." One man was later publicly sorry he wrote his book, the other was not.
I fully believe I will have no reason to be sorry for my labor. For the book will tell the story of Elvis in the beautiful language and form of the very book he loved the most - the King James Bible.
And nowhere in it will you find anything disparaging Jesus Christ. But instead you will find the opposite.
And you will also find Elvis telling people he was not the true king... but that Jesus Christ was the true King.
This coming book... God willing told in chapters once per week, in numbered verse form, will hopefully be the first of three parts on the life of Elvis, and will cover from his distant ancestors through his birth, unto the first great tragedy of his life: the death of his mother.
If sufficient people desire so, the second year will be devoted to his "lost years" in the middle of his life, and the third year will see the chronicling of the tragedy of the last years of his life.
I welcome any one who is interested in the life of "the king," to join me week by week, on this first one year journey.
I am not afraid of criticism nor failure.
What I am afraid of...
is not trying.
And so
I will try.
Because the final and most important reason I am doing this, is because I love the King James Bible, and the beauiful way in which some truly wonderful stories are told in it...
including the most beautiful story of all - The Story of Jesus Christ.
And I hope to do justice in that same language, to a man who brought happiness to so many, while being so lonely.
And who finally, in his last days...
according to his stepbrother...
Turned to the true King, Jesus Christ... one last time.
So in short, if you are looking for a book that makes fun of Elvis Aaron Presley...
This is NOT it.
On January 8, 2009,
Look for the first chapter" of
Elvis: The Story of the King... in King James English.
And then one chapter a week afterwards until completion...
William D. (Will) Bevis.
