A tourist webcam saved a man's life!

A woman was admiring the sunset near the town of St. Peter-Ording when she spotted a tourist who got disoriented on ice. The man climbed over pack ice off the coast to take photos of the sunset. However, he was unable to locate the beach after sunset. The man tried calling for help using the flash on his camera, which alerted the woman watching the sunset through the webcam.

The woman alerted police, who located the man and used car lights to guide him back to the shore.

If the woman did not spot him on ice, the man could have frozen to death or fallen through the ice.

St. Peter-Ording is popular tourist destination known for its beaches and sailing, and the local tourism board runs a Web site with a webcam. The board, however, said images from the webcam are routinely erased and the dramatic flashes from the man's camera were not saved before the story came to light.

Here is the St. Peter-Ording webcam. As of now, the website would not load because of overwhelming traffic they are experiencing now.
