Why Do Vending Machines Never Work?

Probably not earth shattering news but the vending machine on the second floor on the galleria in SFU surrey does not work. Yeah, I know, its boring, but it ate my dollar today, so I hope this notice will save your dollar tomorrow. Bottom line, broken vending machines really grind my gears.

Ever walked past one of those and have this sudden urge that you need a coke to freshen up? Standing there like a dumbass, blocking everything around you while fiddling around in your pockets looking for whatever loose change you can dig out. Then you finally get enough, pop it in, and just when you can mentally taste the sweetness, you find out that the damn machine broke and eat your money. Wow, what a great way to ruin your day.

I only ever used these things a couple of times and already, I had three dollars eaten. THREE DOLLARS!! That’s a lot of money for a broke student. Add two dollars more and you have FIVE DOLLARS!! That’s enough to buy you a burger or feed some hobo for a day.

Never really get why these things are always broken down. Come to think
about it, they don't really do much. It’s not like they have some complex
system of movable parts, just a coin reader with slots that open up to let the selected pop dispense. O wells...

Have you ever thought how the machine is capable of recognizing coins of all shape and makes...? Worn out coins as well as new shiny coins? There's gotta be SOMETHING complex about 'em. And no moving parts? The entire darn THING is a moving contraption! From fiddling around with coins deposited to disposing of the drink you request--all requires moving parts.

If any gear at any point in the process breaks down, uh-oh, there goes your dollar.

At the same time, can't the people who regularly fill up the machine fix it, or at least call in some maintenance crew to come and fix it? I guess it's just not in their best interest to fix a broken machine that's still earning them money, eh?

Original news... I like it. I don't like vending machines for fag machines. I am glad they don't work sometimes!

This picture is taken in Mainz, a town near Frankfurt, Germany. They are the smallest vending machines I've seen (tabaco on left; and Coke on right). Their tiny sizes raise the question just how many (or rather, few) items they hold which is just as well because they don't seen too popular.

Not seen in my photo are scruff marks in the bottom from kicks to the machine made by irate customers. I know exactly how you feel.
