Winter line- Awe at the Horizon

The winter Sun kisses the Queen of the Hills for the night and the valley blushes. The bright yellow lover of the Queen takes a last nap at the lap of her beloved who glows intensely with the eternal warmth. Promising for a reunion, the Sun then slips through the horizon over the Doon Valley leaving a spectacular visual delight for the Queen. The Queen cherishes the phenomenon the whole evening and then goes to recline. The mesmerizing formation of a band of bright light after Sunset over the Doon Valley these days is an amazing phenomenon which transpires every year during the months of Winter, hence called the Winter line. This heavenly sight is only visible in the entire world from Mussoorie and from the Burn Valley in Switzerland. The geological wonder owes to the variation in the temperature that formulates a suppressed buffer layer between the cold wind in the sky and the thick warm smog that envelops the Valley below. The warm smog, which is laden heavily with carbon molecules, acts as dark screen the edge of which prisms the hues of yellow, orange, red and magenta which emits from the red setting sun. The vast variation in the elevation from the Valley to Mussoorie enables such a sight. However, the variation in the elevation in Switzerland is not that vast as that of Mussoorie neither the horizon there is as wide as Mussoorie has over the Valley. The Winter line appears as a bright band of molten gold that dissects the clear deep blue sky adorned with Hesperus-the evening star and the jet brownish black curtain over the Valley. Although the entire South face of the Mussoorie ridge, which includes the Mall road, provide the spectacle of the phenomenon, the Landour cantonment, the Gun Hill and the Radha Bhawan Estate ensures the best sight. The Winter line gets brighter as Winter approaches and fades away with the arrival of Spring. Thought the affair is brief but it leaves a long lasting impression in the heart and soul of the Queen of the Hills who waits for her golden Winter Sun to return and obsess her with his charming Winter line.
