A British woman was thrown off a jury after polling her friends about the trial on Facebook. The woman not only revealed facts about the case on her Facebook page, she asked her friends what they thought about the trial.

"I don't know which way to go, so I'm holding a poll," she wrote on the social networking site

The case, which took place in Burnley, Lancashire, involved serious charges of child abduction and sexual assault. According to legal experts, the case could have been dismissed due to the privacy breach. Instead, the trial continued with 11 jurors rather than 12. British law strictly forbids jurors from discussing details of their case with anyone, including family and friends.

It turns out that the juror wasn't just updating her friends about the case.

It was thought she did not use privacy settings, meaning the Facebook posts could be read by anyone.

What I find very disturbing is that an entire case involving the abuse of a child or a child in danger could be thrown out by one person breaching the privacy ... so that the child is put into danger again ... is that the best our laws can do ?
