Update: great work of the ladies. The whole square is clean. Time to start using it. So the first thing the Chinese did was making a few entrances so nobody can go on the square without notice. Good example of freedom.

Secondly they started to ride big fireworks trucks on the square. So on August 8 we are getting also some fireworks on the Tiananmen Square. see photos

As you already should know, China and particulary Beijing is preparing for the Olympic Games and the millions of foreign visitors. Of course you go to the famous Tiananmen Square, you know from the protest in 1989 !!

The local government ordered lately a big clean-up of the square that covers 40.5 hectares (100 acres), which makes it the largest open-urban square in the world. The Tiananmen Gate was first built in the 1420s in the Ming Dynasty

More than 500 workers, mostly women, received some tools to clean the square by hand. The worked day after day in the burning sun. But the result is fantastic. Clean, cleaner, cleanist.
