Women in high heels risk driving accidents in UK
You need to make sure to have proper footwear while driving. Wearing wrong footwear can lead to serious accidents on road. A new study has revealed that more than 11.5 million women put their and others life at risk by wearing inappropriate footwear in UK.
Insurance figures show that women driving in stilettos could be endangering their lives, with four out of five female drivers admitting to wearing inappropriate footwear.
Flip-flops and slingbacks also make a car harder to control, meaning out of the UK's 14.3 million female motorists, 11.5 million could be at risk.
Insurance company Sheilas' Wheels surveyed 750 women - out of these, 75 admitted having an accident or "near-miss" because their shoes had slipped off or got stuck between or under the pedals.
Almost a quarter said they could not be bothered to change shoes before they started driving, even if they knew the ones they were wearing were unsafe, with a third admitting to wearing flip-flops.
Sheilas' spokesman Jacky Brown said: "It's astonishing so many women are putting themselves, passengers and other drivers at risk.
"Stilettos, slingbacks and flip-flops aren't the sensible choice."
The news comes after it emerged that the number of deaths at zebra crossings in Britain trebled in the past year.
Low fines, the reluctance of motorists to stop and, in some cases, lax design are thought to be behind the rising death and injury toll.

Sanjay Jha, I like this story. It's good stuff.
Good article. If they don't have flip flops. they can always drive bare foot. They should always change there high heels before they put the car in gear. It is easy putting on a seat belt.

So how about men who wear flip-flops? Is that OK then? It's a typical Telegraph story! What they fail to mention is that, from other survey material, women are a third safer drivers than men!

Right on, Johnny. I'm all for the rights of men to be recognised to wear what they need to, especially when driving. But when I drive, I usually take my heels off!

About driving in high heels, normaly Kim wear low or flat heel shoes for driving. Occasionaly she wear high heels to make shot trip or goes shoping whit high heels shoes. Kim say it's very hazardous to drive in high heels and difficult to operate accelerator or brake pedal, more if high heels shoes are wet.

You know, when I used to wear heels, I was surprised that I was allowed to drive in them, they sure are dangerous.

My wife says the challenge of driving in shoes or boots with very high heels makes her feel sexy, especially when she has to pump the gas pedal to get the car started. Watching turns me on every time - sometimes I think she stalls on purpose.....

Great video clips on Leadfootimports! My wife can also drive fast in her highest heels and platforms - mashing the gas and banging through the gears. She is the only woman I know who can do "heel-and-toe" downshifts in stilletos. I have never felt unsafe riding with her at any speed (including 150mph plus on the A7 Autobahn) regardless of footwear. Her problem is driving slowly in heels, where she lacks the pedal feel to pull away gently without stalling and stalling and stalling....... She is an exciting combination of demon on wheels and damsel in distress - and I love both!
