This fire, which started in Alhambra, California around 9am, has destroyed most of the strip mall. Firefighters are still struggling to contain the blaze. We'll keep you updated as we know more.

The fire apparently began at 925 W. Valley Blvd., Alhambra Fire Department spokeswoman Diana Albelo said.

The address was listed in directories as a dry-cleaning establishment.

The fire was reported about 9 a.m., Albelo said. There was no immediate word on injuries.

Meanwhile, here's a blog entry someone wrote about the local coverage of the fire:

I've got "Good Day LA" on, it's Fox, it's a trainwreck of a show, it's one of two sources for local television news at in the 9 AM hour.

Rob Schneider's on, pushing the new Sandler movie, which looks like one long homo joke.

A breaking news story interrupts the riveting interview, a strip mall fire in Alhambra, the whole building's engulfed, the roof's caved in, smoke going hundreds of feet in the air.

The TV screen is a helicopter shot of the fire. The anchors at the desk chat with Rick Dickert (his real name), meterologist and their helicopter reporter, who is letting the viewing audience know that fire is very dangerous.

Just after the front wall of the building falls back into the fire, collapsing, sending firemen scrambling, Rob Schneider says, still with the fire on screen, "Not to give a little segue for my movie, but Adam Sandler and Kevin James play firemen in the movie."

That's a quote, I have Tivo.
Oh, La La Land. The sacred and the profane, you meet again.
