Alexander Wang Designs Condoms for Planned Parenthood
Alexander Wang has designed a line of limited-edition condoms for Planned Parenthood, which will launch on the very same day that his fashion collection for Fall/Winter 2009 debuts at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York: February 14, one of the most amorous days of the year.
The Proper Attire rubbers will be sold at Thompson Hotels and online, with all profits going to Planned Parenthood. “When Planned Parenthood approached me to collaborate with them on a project that makes condoms more appealing to women, I loved the idea!" Wang said. "I used a spare design that felt sexy, modern and empowering; after all, women should always come first!”

I actually designed two condoms that we gave away with our recent collection of designer denim and graffiti jackets. The graffiti jacket came with a condom that says "F@#K tha Police," and Shepard Fairey was recently photographed holding one up. The inexpensive designer denim came with one that says "F@#K the Rich." Our brand is called Proletariat and we offer quality limited edition products at a proletarian price point. Our store is filled with inner-city youth and we know how hard it is for a kid to go into a drugstore and buy condoms. We thought if we made them funny-and gave them out for free-that this would help kids who are going to have sex regardless of protection. I have actually had customers tell me they used one which is funny and satisfying as well because at least kids are protecting themselves.
