The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued that Alpine Trail Mix, Natural Line Chocolate Peanuts and Organic Toffee Caschews and Peanuts are all under a nationwide recall, voluntary however, because some of the peanuts used in the products might be contaminated with salmonella.

Sconza Candy Company, who makes the products, have had no reports of illness, but the peanuts used were manufactured by the Peanut Corporation of America in Plainview, Texas, and the FDA has already recalled other products made there.

Sconza is asking for products that were distributed between January 1 2007 and Feb 0 2009.

The peanuts in them have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, Sconza says.

Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

All the products were distributed nationally and many may be in the vending trade, Sconza says.
