America's Next Top Model - Cycle 14 Episode 9 Review (S014EP9)

Cycle 14 Episode 9 of America's Next Top Model 'Hobbits vs. Models' aired Wednesday on the CW Network at 8pm PST.

ANTM is back for another cycle with 13 more girls vying to be America's Next Top Model.

The Episode Begins:

Raina congratulates all the girls on making it to the top five - top five I can't believe it, it feels like the season just started.

Jessica is nervous because she was in the bottom two and she knows she has to step it up.

Annoying Krista starts yelling about her picture being in the house (again) and Angelea starts sulking that she did not get the the top. Looks like the love-in between Angelea and Krista is about to end... 

Next Jessica tried to make tacos on top of the toaster (um, what) and of course she sets fire to it and the whole toaster is burning. She says that she is not good under pressure and true to form she starts screaming and throwing towels on top of it. Krista starts ragging on Jessica for 'not being a mom' and for not cooking and Krista says that Jessica's child is screwed (um, that's mean, if I was Jessica I would have slapped her). 

Putting all the fire drama behind them, the girls head to their photo shoot and it seems like the girls are starting to get sick of each other as there is a lot of bickering going on. Now Raina is getting picked on and even Alexandra is taking part (I thought better of her).

They arrive at their shoot and find out that they are at the Hobbittown (from Lord of the Rings you know) set and Angelea of course has never seen LOTR so she is totally lost. The girls find out they are going to pose in the doorway of the Hobbit house and only get five frames to prove themselves. On the plus side their outfits look very comfortable and colorful.

Alexandra goes first and she does well, she's back to being confident.

Krista's photo shoot is cute and she is still totally annoying.

Jessica is sweet as usual, but she seems stiff and a bit boring (aww I like her).

Angelea is good actually and she is trying to prove herself.

Raina is gorgeous, love her.

Jessica is the least favored of the bunch, but Krista is the winner (again.. yawn). She acts so surprised yet we all knew she was going to win.

Angelea is fuming that Krista and it really looks like a major fight is about to go down.. yay!

Krista and Alexandra start to make fun of Angelea (remember when she did that weird club walk thing at panel last week?) and while that was totally weird, the other girls are being mean. Not like Angelea hasn't been dishing out the smack though to other girls.

The girls get Tyra Mail and find out they might have to shadow a top model from the past (I hope it's Laura from the previous cycle!).

Krista and Alexandra seem to have taken up solace in each other and are outside on the deck and start making fun of Raina for being too nice and upbeat about everything, which I think is actually a refreshing change.

Anyway, the girls leave for their photo shoot and arrive at a vineyard (New Zealand has delicious wine by the way) and then they see Tyra come out! She is going to be their photographer and of course Raina is excited! (sorry, couldn't resist). So the girls won't be shadowing a top model, but working with shadows in their shoot.

This photo shoot is all about the face, so hopefully Jessica really steps it up. The girls are going to have clay in their hair, um ok, and everyone looks nervous, no kidding as Tyra is going to be there the whole time. Jessica looks like she might pass out. 

They all get clay in their hair and it looks pretty gross up close, but cool on camera.

Alexandra goes first for her shoot and she has to find the light through this tablecloth, which is much harder than it sounds. Tyra does a good job of directing her and Alexandra really steps it up. Her nose is even running like a faucet and she does a good job anyway.

Jessica is next and her light is coming through a wicker chair. She is too commercial again and cannot bring it, which makes me so sad! She is so pretty but only after Tyra coached her a lot she was able to do it. That still could mean she goes home.

Raina is third and she has to pose with coarse rope wearing just panties. She is a bit bland at the beginning but then after she gets in to it she does do better, although she is still a bit awkward and you can tell she does not like the idea for the shoot.

Next comes Angelea with some crazy clay hair and she is lying down on a board of rough wood with the light coming through the wicker chair. She does a good job though I think, even though Krista and Raina are making her nervous watching from the sidelines. She is a bit boring though and needs a lot of coaching from Tyra.

Krista is last, and she also gets some coaching from Tyra and actually seems to struggle quite a bit with her shoot. She blames it on the light as the sun is going down - um whatever. She does do well though and her shoot looks good, I think she might win again.

Angelea thinks Krista did not do as well as her though. I'm not sure about that. 

They all go back to the house, hopefully to not cook some more tacos, but Raina is still saying 'Oh My Lanta' and keeping upbeat about the situation. Good for her, it's refreshing. 

Now it's judging time!

Alexandra goes first for judging and her photo is really amazing! I love it! It doesn't even look like her shoot. Andre says that she looks really versatile.

Raina's photo is dark and disturbing but it's too dark and you can't really see her face. It is a nice change from her happy face that she usually gives all the time however. You could tell she wasn't having a great time.

Angelea is next, wearing a super cute dress, and her photo is like a painting, it's really good. It looks like she is sitting up, but she is actually lying down on her back. Her photo is nice though, I like it.

Jessica's photo really pretty and it's in black and white, unlike the other girl's photos. It's not high fashion though, it is very pretty, but not totally 'top model like'.

Last is Krista and her photo does not even look like her, but once again the judges gush over the photo and talk about how great she is - at this rate they might as well end the show now. It's going to get really boring if it is just the 'Kirsta Show'. 

Now it's deliberation time and the judges talk about the photos. I think Jessica is going to go home... :( But the judges don't seem to like Raina or Angelea much either. Who could go home?? They of course praise Krista again.

It comes down to Raina and Jessica - oh no, I like them both! They hold hands, that's so cute.

Jessica is there because she is sweet and pretty and too commercial, which is a money-maker, but not a career-maker.. ouch. Raina is there because she cannot give any edge either and falls flat. Raina gets to stay and Jessica has to go home. 

Aww I'm so sad, I like Jessica. That's too bad. Tyra says that the 'whole commercial thing' on Top Model is the kiss of death, but that she should prove everyone wrong when she goes home, and prove that she can make it. She is happy to go home to see her husband and her little baby, and says she is going to move to California or New York.
