Bag, Borrow or Steal: Designer Accessories for Rent

In the face of a recession, fashionable shoppers are opting to rent designer handbags, jewelry and other accessories from websites like Bag, Borrow or Steal. The Sex and the City movie popularized Bag, Borrow or Steal when Carrie's assistant, played by actress Jennifer Hudson, decided to rent a designer handbag because she couldn't afford to buy one.

The rental site allows you to borrow a designer item for as long as you want, and for serial borrowers a monthly membership fee nets you lower rental rates than what guest borrowers pay. You can keep your item for as long as you wish - a week, a month - and if you really can't part with your newest used Louis Vuitton bag then you can "steal" it for a discounted price.

All items on the site are guaranteed to be authentic - and they should be, as the Seattle based company has raised millions in financing over recent years to acquire a healthy and wealthy roster of items.

Perhaps fashionistas who can't afford expensive luxury goods should scale back and live within their means, re-adjust their value system and examine their self worth. Or, perhaps appearances are everything and if you can't afford to own luxury outright, at least you can rent it out on a weekly basis.
