Senator Barack Obama and Terry Moran of ABC News - "I've always reserved the right, uh, to say---let's say that ethnic, uh, ethnic fighting broke out once again---I've reserved the right to say---I don't--I'm not going to stand idly by if genocide is occurring.”, said Barack Obama. Barack Obama And His Perfect Storm Of Peace In Iraq

In an interview with ABC’s Terry Moran for Nightline (July 21, 2008), Barack Obama showed why he really isn’t ready for “Primetime” let alone “Nightline”.

Junior Senator Barack Obama will not say he was wrong about his assessment of the Bush Administration’s implementation of the military operation that has become known as “The Surge”. This is the operation where an additional 30,000 or so United States soldiers were placed in Iraq in order to stop the strengthening growth of anti-Iraq insurgent (Al Qaeda) combatants and provide security for the newly elected government of Iraq to begin to operate.

Eighteen months ago, it was estimated that there were 12,000 armed combatants working throughout the country to disrupt the newly formed government of Iraq. Today, the estimate is that there may be 1,200 armed combatants holed up in the western provinces of Iraq. One year ago in June 2007, we lost over seventy soldiers to violence and IED roadside bombs throughout Iraq … June 2008 saw that number drop to five.

Moran noted that Obama had claimed that the surge "would not make a significant dent in the violence."

Barack Obama insists that the reason the violence is down in Iraq is due to a convergence of factors that he could not anticipate happening … OH, and some “terrific work by our troops”.

The Perfect Storm of factors the junior Senator sites are disturbing ---

“… but the Sunni awakening in which a whole host of Sunni tribal leaders decided that they had had enough with Al Qaeda, in the Shii’a community the militias standing down to some degrees. So what you had is a combination of political factors inside of Iraq that then came right at the same time as terrific work by our troops. Had those political factors not occurred, I think that my assessment would have been correct.”

Sorry Barack, the Sunni tribal leaders could not have “had enough” and say so if the additional 30,000 troops were not on the ground to provide security and combative strength. The Shii’a community mailtias would not have stood down if there wasn’t a very capable and ready force (bolstered by 30,000 United States military troops on the ground) aligned against their violent power grabbing agenda.

Further, Barack Obama had this to say as it relates to what HE would do if he were President and the military was pulled out of Iraq … and the violence began to increase inside the country ---

"But," asked Moran,"if the country had pursued your policy of withdrawing in the face of this horrific violence, what do you think Iraq would look like now?"

Obama said it would be hard to speculate. "The Sunnis might have made the same decisions at that time. The Shii’as might have made some similar decisions based on political calculation. There was ethnic cleansing in Baghdad that actually took the violence level down," he said.

Obama also told Moran that there were circumstances under which he could revise his instruction to U.S. generals to begin withdrawing combat brigades at the pace of one-to-two per month.

"I've always reserved the right, uh, to say---let's say that ethnic, uh, ethnic fighting broke out once again---I've reserved the right to say---I don't--I'm not going to stand idly by if genocide is occurring. I'm not going to stand idly by if vital United States interests are at stake. Um, so in that sense yes, I retain the flexibility anyone who in the job of commander in chief is constantly reassessing facts, risks, and so forth."

--- So, basically Barack Obama advocates that our military go back to Iraq and start a third war insde Iraq.

This scenario actually would be an insult to Jimmy Carter and the suggestion that a Barack Obama presidency would result in a second term for the Carter Administration.

Actually, a Barack Obama Administration would be of a greater failure than a Carter’s Second Term.

By the way, the "Surge" has ended.

good stuff:

When I told my grandmother that I thought an Obama presidency would be more akin to another term by Carter and/or Nixon she nearly had a heart attack. [Grandma is a lib].

As for your post, it is right on. Obama doesn't know what he doesn't know. He has said that we need to get out of Iraq so we can get back into Afghanistan. I wonder how well that is playing out with the libs.

And when we have a presumptive presidential candidate with as little experience in national politics (yeah, he's a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!) all we have to judge him on is the stances he has taken. One of those stances was squarely against the surge. The surge worked. He was wrong.

But I'm sure we will all be well served having a president who can get a 4th of July barbeque going in the neighborhood.

Thanks for this, Edmund Jenks. I moved your story from the style channel to the world channel.

I had this posting placed in STYLE because with Barack Obama ... it's ALL ABOUT STYLE over substance.

I have placed this posting back where it belongs ... in the STYLE section as he is out to impress the world.

Ok, here is the score - Obama 4-5

McCain - 1-5

We are talking about being right on Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq's surge, Iraq's timetable. Let's not get into Eurpean and African, or where Obama was the first to sponsor a bill calling for sanctions on Mugabe. We are now carrying out coordinated strikes against Taliban targets in Pakistan borders, which has killed two top level commanders, we are carrying out talks with Iran, Iraq PM and government are in agreement with 16 months, and McCain and Bush are jumping on the Afghanistan bandwagon.

Oh yea, I am a progressive in the U.S. military and I am completely okay with Obama calling for more troops in Afghanistan. I was saying this when I was here two years ago, and I praised Obama for saying it last year.

Isn't Bush currently standing by and letting genocide happen, I think so.

Reagan and Bush had less legislative experience than Obama. Bush was the CEO of two failed oil companies and Reagan was a HOLLYWOOD ACTOR.

McCain, can't tell difference between Sunni and Shia, thinks Iraq/Pakistan share a border, doesn't know Czech Republic and Slovakia are two countries, has no clue who the enemy is in Iraq, doesn't know where al-Qeada operates.

As far as the surge is concerned, let me point out a few things.

1. They have not met their political goals. The testimony to congress covered improvements, but not success.

2. If the surge is a success, then why not call for a timetable to withdraw....oh wait, Bush did, it is a time horizon. McCain still doesn't want to admit he was wrong.

3. Before you jump on that. If the surge was a success, but we can't withdraw, because they would come back, then that means we would never leave, right?

4. There are still 150,000 U.S. troops, which is well above pre-surge levels.

5. Patraeus said they needed 45 days after surge to fully evaluate success...it's been less than 20 days.

6. Negotiations, yes, negotiations with Sunni and Shia tribal leaders has been one of the key factors in violence slowing down....as stated by Secretary Rice.

7. Bush praised the Iraqi's as taking the lead in stopping violence, which then would mean it wasn't really the U.S. forces, but the Iraqi's.

8. Would we be talking about a surge if they would have sent the right number of troops in the first place, as requested per Colin Powell, Eric Shinseki, Chairman of JCS, Commandant of Marine Corps, many other military leaders.

9. Why did McCain praise Rumsfeld and Bush in 03,04, and 05 for their war strategy.

10. McCain is a third term of Bush.

Psssst! ... he's a socialist that wants to take away the freedoms you are fighting for.

Truth is, he wants us to lose a war so that he can win a political campaign. He really does not believe in the uniqueness of the United States of America.

It has been said ... that if one does not believe in GOD, they are willing to believe in ANYTHING.

I hope that you may find GOD and that you find him ... now (or as your candidate would say - ... uh, --- na ..., uh --- NOW! - he really could use a teleprompter).

Shoot straight and stay low and thank you for your service, it is greatly appreciated here at the Edmund Jenks household.

Wow, that is harsh. I didn't know Obama didn't believe in God. Have you heard McCain stumble, stammer, and complete get blank on questions about his voting record? Do you want me to post some links for you? Have you heard Bush do the same, I have some great ones of both of them? But I guess you need to grasp straws.

Obama is a progressive, not a socialist. But that has become the right wing smear comment for all. I am in the military and am a socialist, does that make me un-American? If you read our Constitution and founder's literature, many of them didn't envision a totally free market because it would lead to tyranny of the elite, as Jefferson put it. I describe myself as a progressive-socialist. And I don't subscribe to communism.

I know Crazy_Patrio12, we served together, and I introduced him to this site. He is pretty right on.

Another believe ANYTHING, Soros template seminar "thinker" who is pretty great at hate (as in hating anything Bush, or free market, or self-reliant Americanism) but not too great at debate.

Obama can only be judged by the company HE keeps because he has never accomplished anything - at college (no academic papers - NONE), in the neighborhood (one of the most violent in America), while he held office in Illinois (voted "present" 103 times), or as the Junior Senator from Illinois (no legislative record at all).

We all know his friends, his church, his very own statements (by the way, what day is this and where is Barry today ... with this information we can assertain which side of the issue being discussed he would be STRADDLING upon).

No-Drill, Tax Everything That Moves, Big-Bigger-Biggest Government Envisioner, and don't forget to mention "Progressive" presumptive candidate of the Democrat Party for President of the United States - Barack Obama!

Wait --- Hold It! --- Back Off! --- I'm beginning to swoon!
