Nicole Bridger, winner of the inaugural BC Fashion Week Generation Next designer competition, has been powering along with her line and following up on the success of her last showing at BCFW. She's studied under Vivienne Westwood, and was one of the lead designers who started Oqoqo, a sustainable and street-ready sister line to Lululemon.
I loved the earthy colour palette of her spring/summer 2009 collection, which uses all eco-friendly fabrics, and though many of the pieces were very wearable I caught members of the audience remarking that the show was "underwhelming."
Bridger toyed with getting into more elaborate dresses with this number (there was also a full-length version that just didn't work):
There were quite a few repeats of designs coming down the runway, and that raised some eyebrows. Exact same dresses but on different models, if we were lucky it was the same piece in a different colour. Re-using pants in a runway show is one thing, but to show the same dress twice? If she didn't have a full 30 piece collection I think she should have just presented what she had instead of doubling up.
The audience liked her designs, but no one was gushing about it afterwards. Overall, though, I'd call the show a success!
