It was founded 51 years ago, by Ben Ali on U Street, which was known as Black Broadway back then due to its attraction for performers such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.

Ben Ali died of natural causes at his home.

More recently, Bill Cosby has been a favorite guest at the restaurant, and President Barack Obama stopped by in January.

Sorry to hear the news. My condolences and sympathies to the family.
I was there for the first time this August and really enjoy it and took a couple of decent pics.
