Carl's Jr. Testing Footlong Cheeseburger to Compete with KFC Double Down
Not content to let KFC rule the fast food WTF roost, Carl's Jr. (of softcore Paris Hilton ad fame) is testing a highly-experimental "Footlong Cheeseburger" in select locations. Imagine, if you will, a hybrid between a cheeseburger and a submarine sandwich (hoagie, grinder, what have you).

- KFC Double Down Sandwich: No Room for Bread, Just Chicken
One interesting result from the testing: the Footlong Cheeseburger does not fit into existing Carl's Jr. takeout bags. They stick out the top, like the piece of french bread in every movie-scene grocery bag.
So far, the Footlong Cheeseburger comes in two configurations (is this the right term for fast food?): regular ($4) and deluxe ($4.50, includes lettuce and tomato).
However, early reviews reveal that it's not actually a footlong cheeseburger at all, but a footlong sandwich stuffed with several smaller cheeseburgers. A semantic difference to some, but one that belies the name of the sandwich. It seems more like a collection of sliders placed within a single bun.
But, that’s where the impressiveness stopped. Upon further inspection, I discovered the footlong came with three tiny round patties carefully placed between a Hoagie-style bun. I was kind of hoping for one long, lean burger pattie. The toppings (onions, mayo, pickles, lettuce, tomato and cheese) made the whole thing ordinary.
As for the patty, it actual consists of smaller individual patties, instead of one larger piece (which may have earned it some more “craziness points“). Maybe they will make some modifications if they decide to roll this burger out nationally.
