Missoni for Target: Megastore Fails to Anticipate Demand

When Target offered limited-edition, Missoni clothing and houseware, perhaps the big-box giant should have imagined that there would be heightened demand. After all, Missoni swag can cost into quadruple digits, and Target is offering Missoni for much less.

Not only were there queues outside brick-and-mortar Target stores, the website was brought down by extra traffic. A target spokesman called the Missoni rush "unprecedented", as if he had never heard of Black Friday.

Missoni's own website, Flash-bloated at the best of times, is also getting slammed, even though it's not doing any Target sales.

Many of the items are already out of stock, and are appearing on ebay and craigslist, with the expected markups. If you bought it at Target, there's a common-sense limit to how much you can resell it for, zigzags or no zigzags.

Will this affect Target's overall business or reputation? Nope. Target is where shoppers go for no-brainer convenience. If one particular item is sold out, they'll just buy something else, or come back another day when they run out of socks.
