Naming your kid "Olympic Games" may seem eccentric but Chinese parents beg to differ.
More than 4,000 children in China have been given the name Aoyun, meaning Olympic Games, in the past 15 years.

The pronounciation for Aoyun is close to "Owl-yoon" and listening to my Chinese colleague's careful pronounciation, it actually has a pleasant ring.

It must be better than "space travel."
Officials in charge of identity cards say that more than 92% of the 4,104 registered Aoyuns are boys.

It is not uncommon for Chinese children to be given names of common events and popular slogans - such as Defend China, Build the Nation and Space Travel.

There are 290,798 registered Civilisations.

cynthia yoo, I like this story. It's good stuff. I think this is a nice idea, although in 18 years all these kids won't think of it that way I think!

How bizarre! I like the name but the trend does have a funny premise!

cynthia yoo, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I was a bit surprised to hear that this choice of baby name... then I remembered the ongoing naming battle between celebrities (ie. Diva Muffin, Apple, Audio Science, Moon Unit, Sage Moonblood, Dweezil... the list goes on)

Suddenly 'Olympic Games' doesn't seem so strange...

This is a phot that I took of my daughter as she entered the first few days of her life.
She is seen holding the fingers of one of my fmily who will help to guide her through life.

This little boys hand is one day old. The big hand is from his proud cousin.
