Disney to let Employees Grow Beards
As of February 3rd, Walt Disney Theme Parks will allow their male employees to grow beards and goatees.
After 60 years of a relentless facial hair ban, Disney Land and Disney World will allow their employees to have beards. This is one of two changes that will become active on February 3rd as part of the new "Disney Look" policy that all employees and "cast members" must follow.
Stipulations include that beards must be no longer than a quarter of an inch thick and should create an overall neat and polished look.
The Disney Look will also allow for Casual Fridays. The second change will come to non-costumed employees and those who don't interact with park visitors.
The rigid code was originally set in place by Walt Disney himself, who wanted to distinguish the Disneyland, which opened in 1955, from other "sleazy carnivals" of the time. Disney demanded a clean cut look for all of its employees.
Disney Guidelines are periodically reviewed, but seldom changed. The last change came two years ago when female workers were allowed to abstain from wearing panty hose when wearing skirts.
