When it opened in 1969 the Dusit Thani Hotel was state-of-the-art in terms of hotels in Bangkok. It was the largest, most luxurious hotel to grace the City of Angels up until that time and it quickly became a magnet for both the social and business elite of the city. It was then, and remains today, a distinctly Thai hotel with appointments that are conspicuously Thai in nature. In fact, the name of the hotel means, in Thai, “town in heaven.”

Another reason the Dusit Thani has been a landmark in the hotel industry here is its large number of facilities including meeting and conference rooms, an Italian restaurant, a high-end French restaurant, a Thai restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, a Vietnamese restaurant, an international restaurant, a Japanese restaurant, a steakhouse, a bar, a spa and the Napalai Ballroom, one of the most famous banquet and event facilities in Bangkok which has seen many of the city’s high society and high profile events over the years.

The hotel’s location could hardly be better as it sits across Rama IV Road from Lumpini Park at the corner of Silom Road which has always been the business center of the city and a short way from the Chao Phraya River. Also, it is adjacent to both the MRT subway an d the BTS Skytrain systems, the only mass transit systems in the city. The hotel’s guests have a very easy time traveling to any of the major business, shopping or entertainment centers using these systems.

The Dusit Thani's 517 rooms and executive suites are all sumptuously appointed with distinctive Thai inspirations mentioned above and come in a wide variety of sizes and styles with 14 different room configurations all the way up to the majesty Suite which at 320 square meters must surely be one of the largest hotel accommodations in Bangkok. All of the rooms come with the usual five-star amenities that you would expect from any hotel of this stature including IDD telephones with voice mail and broadband internet access.

As mentioned above, the Dusit Thani offers its guests a great choice of fine dining in the with eight top-quality restaurants offering cuisine choices from around the world. Native Thai cuisine is served at Benjarong, traditional Cantonese at Mayflower, innovative Italian at Il Cielo, Vietnamese at Thien Duong, steak and seafood at Hamilton’s, Japanese at Shogun and international food and buffets at the Pavilion. All of these restaurants are meticulously maintained and managed and the menus reflect an attention to detail that is rivaled only by the service and food quality. They really do place a great deal of importance on their food and beverage service here and have some real professionals looking after this part of their operation.

Equally varied is the array of venues for cocktails, ranging from the chic surroundings of MyBar with live entertainment to the quieter setting of the Lobby Lounge and the ChampagneS Bar, or the rooftop D'Sens Bar with its stunning, panoramic city views.

And if you’re in need of some rejuvenation or relaxation, the Devarana Spa in the hotel can provide a wide variety of spa and beauty treatments. This is a very high-end spa with high standards of quality and service in line with everything else you’ll encounter at the Dusit Thani. This hotel is actually the flagship hotel of the Dusit Thani chain and is really the showpiece for the entire Dusit Thani brand so it serves as the group’s showpiece to the world and the effort they expend here is noticeable.

Considering the superb location of the hotel and the great variety of services and accommodations offered here, you might want to consider staying at this “town in heaven” the next time you visit the City of Angels.
