Farringdon Mice: Prank Tube Warning Sparks London Rodent Panic
Farringdon Tube Station Prank Warns of Mouse Attacks
Commuters at Farringdon Station were confronted with a Tube Advisory sign that read as follows:
"The mice at this station have been attacking customers. Please place the bottom your trousers into your socks to avoid being the victim of the Farringdon mice."
The sign was a hoax, which has since been taken down. A TfL spokesperson said, “We do not believe it was written by a member of station staff and we’re not aware of any problems with mice."
So there you have it: no vicious mice at Farringdon... or so they want us to believe. We're not sure how many commuters actually believed the vicious mice warning, but it's not every day you get to use "London Rodent Panic" in a headline, so we went for it.
On a related note, there's an urban myth that says that you're never more than 10 feet from a rat, no matter where in London you are. A variation says 20 feet, but whatever: it's not true. However, it's far more likely on a Tube platform. Just saying.
