In order to ensure tight security during this summer's Olympic Games, the city of Beijing has banned fireworks for over three months. Can anyone say party pooper?

Dealers will be forced to suspend sales in the capital and lock existing stocks in specially designated warehouses from July 1 to Oct. 8, according to an order posted on the Web site of the Beijing Administration of Work Safety.

The rule tightens regulations that ban fireworks in the city center for most of the year to include all of Beijing's sprawling suburbs.

In China, the civilization credited with inventing gunpowder, massive fireworks barrages and displays are commonly used to celebrate weddings, the lunar new year and other festive occasions.

It was not known how the ban would affect the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, which have been planned in secret. The Olympics run from Aug. 8-24, followed by the Sept. 6-17 Paralympic Games, also hosted by Beijing.

The order posted on the work safety administration site Friday did not elaborate on the purpose of the fireworks ban, besides saying it was being imposed "to ensure safety around the time of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games." But it falls in line with other stringent arrangements apparently designed to ward off threats of violent attack, catastrophic accidents or public disorder.

This photo was taken in my front yard in Canberra last weekend - the Queen's Birthday long weekend. This is the only time of the year, and Canberra is the only place in Australia, where it's legal for members of the general public to buy and let off fireworks.

Fireworks are a great source of excitement and wonder for people of all ages. These shots were taken at a Lancaster Barnstormers game, a minor league baseball team here in Pennsylvania. Everyone stayed after the game for them and it really helped cap off a fantastic night.

10th birthday of a supermarket was celebrated when I took it... There were concerts and other entertaining, but the firework was the best. I was bored about the concert... They have never wanted to stop, but the firework was after the concert... so, I had to wait in the rain. =)

The day was the Providence University's graduation this year.
Every year, Providence University's graduation always begins at night. Thousands of students graduated at that day. In the end of ceremony, the gorgeous fireworks display for a while. And it means a blessing for graduate students.

these pictures were taken at the "river meeting" (les rencontres du fleuve) festival in nantes. The pyrotechnic display entitled "totem" was created by "groupe F", a company who boasts designing and performing events like the closure of the world soccer cup in France or olympic games in Barcelona, as weel the opening of olypic games in athens or year Y2K lighting of Eiffel tower. In Nantes they used the giant crane of now closed shipyards as a stage for their very impressive show, which combined fireworks, flames and techno sound track.

This is one of MANY Fractals I have created using the great freeware program Fractal Explorer. Oh, what a world we now live in. Banning fireworks in Beijing is like banning hotdogs in New York City. Don't try to figure it out, you'll never understand. What can ya say. I hope you enjoy.

The Demons hold a firework of tube each person(demon). You see it'd have risks for them.

If you were around in 1967 during the HongKong riots, you would understand. Rioter were buying fireworks and turning them into bombs. Come on you guys waken up! Selling fireworks during the Olympic Games?  Get off the stuff, the Olympic spirit is enthusiasm to compete, not something that you drink!

This image displays the brilliance of fireworks along Rio, Brazil's amazing coast. Interestingly, fireworks are called Fogos de Artifício in Brazil, meaning fake fire.
