Anti-fur trade protesters booed opera singer Katherine Jenkins as she arrived at Harrods to open its winter sale.

Jenkins was stand in for top of the charts singer Leona Lewis who refused to open the sale in protest at its fur trade policy which sees it being the only major UK store to sell imported furs.

Protesters were incensed more by the fact that Ms Jenkins, a very public vegetarian, has in the past publicly declared her views against animal cruelty and the fur trade.

Anti-fur campaigners booed opera singer Katherine Jenkins as she arrived at Harrods to open its winter sale.

Protesters shouted "shame on Katherine" as she arrived by horse-drawn carriage.

The Welsh star turned out after chart-topping singer Leona Lewis reportedly refused to open the sale because of Harrods' policy of selling fur.

Protesters claim Harrods is the only major store in the UK to sell imported fur. No-one from the Knightsbridge store was available for comment.

Good for Leona Lewis - I didn't really like her, but have way more respect for her now.

Was the problem imported fur or fur?  Were any of the protesters wearing leather?  That's fur scraped smooth.  How about wearing clothes made from non-renewable petroleum products?  How do vegetarians get their food?  -- from large farms (or small) which displace wildlife.Come on, find another cause unless you're a macrobiotic nudist who lives in a natural cave.

I understand that the problem was mainly the imported fur factor - many shops sell British farmed fur and they aren't getting these protests although the protesters did also seem to be anti-fur per say. Jenkins herself was a problem for the protesters as she has publicly spoken out against fur trade and is a vegetarian.
