A holiday in Majorca might not seem like the best option at the moment with the Pound weak against the Euro, but in actual fact, as there will be many people who are staying away from European holidays at the moment, now could be a really good time to look at going.

First of all, it’s worth noting that many companies who sell holidays to the public will have bought up their holiday stock – that means things like hotel rooms and places on flights etc. – well before it was realised that the Pound would fall as low as it has.  What this means for them is that if no one buys these holidays at all, then they find themselves out of pocket as this expenditure has already taken place.  What it means for UK holiday makers is that for these companies selling the holiday to you sometimes even at a loss to themselves is worthwhile because at least that way they recoup some of the money they’ve already spent out.  In fact at the moment a quick glimpse at the internet shows that some companies are already offering people up to £200 off their booking price for couples and even more for families when they choose this destination.

Another thing to consider of course is to make sure that your holiday when you do decide to book it, is safe.  Many of the larger companies are reminding people of this and pointing to their insurance cover as a reason to use them rather than some of the less well known smaller companies, and it’s certainly true that whoever you use, in this time of recession with companies struggling and the risk of them going under, insurance is a very worthwhile thing to take out, and not something to skip.

Holding out for a late booking holiday to Majorca, may well give you several benefits.  Firstly, if you book and then fly fairly soon afterwards there’s less chance of the company you’re booking with going under in the time period between the two.  Secondly, the price that you pay may well fall even lower in that time as companies strive to persuade you to travel with them offering better deals for less money so they aren’t left with too many empty seats and beds.  Having said this, some companies like Thomas Cook for example are suggesting that it will be better to book now as there aren’t likely to be so many special deals this summer.

Booking an all inclusive holiday might be one way to make sure that you don’t overspend – this way the majority of your holiday costs including food, some activities and sometimes drinks are covered, and you’ll have far less to pay for in terms of ‘extras’ while you’re there.  When you get there it’s also worth talking to the rep at the resort, they’re probably the most likely person to know what all the current special offers and discounts are in local venues.  Alternatively – or even as well, you could think about getting together a group of families.  Discounts are always available for larger groups, so you might all be able to save yourselves some money this way.
